Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

COFERdata.com ("the Site") provides interactive visualizations of the International Monetary Fund's COFER dataset (Currency Composition of Official Foreign Exchange Reserves) for research and educational purposes. For questions about this policy or your data, contact us at info@coferdata.com.

2. Data We Collect

The Site does not require registration and does not collect names, email addresses, or other directly identifying information from visitors. The following data may be processed automatically:

  • Usage analytics — we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (pages visited, approximate location at country/city level, device and browser type). IP addresses are processed by Google for this purpose.
  • Advertising data — we display advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, measure their performance, and (with your consent) personalize them.
  • Technical logs — our hosting provider (Vercel) may keep short-lived server logs (IP address, user agent) for security and operations.

3. Cookies and Consent

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This Site uses cookies set by Google Analytics and Google AdSense. A single first-party preference (your light/dark theme choice) is stored in your browser's local storage and is never transmitted to us.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, advertising and analytics storage is disabled by default and is only activated after you give consent through the consent message displayed on the Site (Google's certified consent management platform). You can change or withdraw your consent at any time through the same message, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

4. How Google Uses Your Data

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. For more information on how Google handles data, see How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

5. Legal Basis (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for advertising and analytics cookies, and on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in operating a secure, functional website for strictly necessary processing such as server logs.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because we do not maintain accounts or store visitor profiles ourselves, most data rights requests relating to analytics or advertising are best directed through the Google privacy controls linked above; you can also contact us at info@coferdata.com and we will assist.

7. Data Retention and Transfers

Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings. Data processed by Google may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries under appropriate safeguards (such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses).

8. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
